Working across sculpture, painting, bas-relief, public intervention, installation, and material experimentation, Kai creates works that balance emotional immediacy with conceptual depth. His work investigates memory, love, sacrifice, ambition, environmental responsibility, vulnerability, and the invisible emotional systems that shape human relationships.

Rooted initially in street art and public intervention, Kai emerged in the late 2000s through murals, unauthorized installations, and sculptural works placed directly into public life throughout Los Angeles, Miami, Paris, and New York. Early bodies of work such as Morons, Lost Values, and Now Royalty explored consumerism, celebrity culture, addiction, status symbolism, and contemporary systems of power, establishing recurring tensions that continue throughout the practice: love versus ambition, permanence versus fragility, emotional truth versus surface appearance, and care versus self-interest.

Central to the work is IF (Imaginary Friend), a recurring figure that functions less as a fixed character than as a symbolic vessel. Through its simplicity, IF becomes intentionally universal: a figure capable of carrying projection, memory, vulnerability, hope, grief, and emotional recognition across cultures and generations. Kai’s visual language often appears immediate, but the works themselves are materially layered constructions built through experimentation, symbolism, sculptural process, and repetition.

Throughout the 2010s, Kai increasingly expanded his work into public interventions using cement, wood, bas-relief, fiberglass, and architectural installation. Cement became philosophically central to the practice, functioning simultaneously as material, metaphor, and social equalizer: a substance associated with sidewalks, labor, architecture, and public infrastructure transformed into emotionally charged objects through time, care, and process. This period evolved into Modern Relics, a body of work that blurred distinctions between contemporary intervention and ancient artifact through erosion, weathering, bas-relief, and distressed surfaces.

A major shift occurred in 2020 with the introduction of bronze into the practice. After nearly a year of experimentation and development, Kai completed his first bronze sculpture, Love Holds Us Together (2021), marking the beginning of a transition from ephemeral public intervention into monumentality and permanence. Since then, his practice has expanded into monumental public sculpture and large-scale installations across the United States, Mexico, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Germany.

Across intimate objects and monumental public works alike, Kai’s practice consistently attempts to transform emotionally fragile ideas into materially permanent forms. Whether encountered in the street, within institutional spaces, or through large-scale public installations, the work asks viewers to slow down long enough to recognize themselves within it. His works are held in institutional, public, and private collections including the Gateway Foundation at Citygarden, Musée du Touquet-Paris-Plage, The Toll Collection, Fondation A Stichting, the Goldman Collection, the When We All Vote Foundation, and the Corporación Masaveu Collection.
